One of the most significant tourist destinations in Sicily is Taormina. Perched on the terraces of Monte Tauro and overlooking the turquoise waters of Mar Ionio, Taormina never fails to impress with its contrasts.

Although until the 60s Taormina was the hub of winter tourism in Sicily thanks to its mild temperatures that attracted the elites of northern Europe, today the town comes to life during the summer season. Indeed, thanks to its strategic location on the hills facing the coast, the city remains ventilated even during the hot Sicilian summers. The sea in the area is truly wonderful and it is definitely worth taking a boat trip to discover it. Otherwise, you cannot miss the Mazzarò Beach or the Isola Bella Beach, renamed the “pearl of the Mediterranean” for its beauty. From the coast, you can then decide to move to Taormina with the Funivia Mazzarò-Taormina and enjoy the breathtaking panorama during the ascent.

Once in Taormina you will be enchanted by the beauty of the town, its historical monuments, the relaxing atmosphere and the surrounding natural landscape. The city is also synonymous with shopping, walking through its streets among art shops, boutiques and antiques you will be constantly tempted by the carefully curated windows.

During the summer season the city is also animated by major events, including the Taormina Film Fest and the Taormina Arte; and the stage of these cultural events is the unmissable Greek theatre of Taormina. The Ancient Theatre has as its backdrop the Ionian Sea and the majestic Mount Etna, the highest active volcano in Europe, that you will often find smoking. Among the most evocative images of Taormina, there is certainly the view of the erupting volcano during the night when the bright red lava appears to be within touching distance.

In short, if Taormina has been chosen as a set by more than 50 film productions in its history there is certainly a reason. In 2023, The White Lotus was the most recent miniseries to win the Golden Globe.

From Il Pampaleone Glamping & Resort the city can be reached within 40 minutes by car by taking the A18 motorway towards Messina and exiting at Taormina. For those who’d rather not drive, Taormina is served by the train station of Taormina-Giardini. From the Pampaleone you can reach the nearby train station of Carruba in less than 5 minutes by car or bike.
